That is exactly why I am so obsessed with the magic of bacon and pasta. It is the ultimate comfort food pairing that never fails to put a smile on everyone's face. Today, I’m sharing two of my absolute favorite ways to whip up a Tomato and Bacon Pasta that will literally change your weeknight dinner game forever.
Tomato and Bacon Pasta Recipe | Your Ultimate Menu
If you are looking for that perfect balance of smoky, salty, and zesty, look no further. This version is a total crowd-pleaser and feels like something you’d order at a cozy little bistro downtown, but you can make it in your pajamas! The secret here is letting the bacon fat really coat the pasta, which creates this luscious, savory sauce that clings to every single noodle. My family literally asks for seconds (and sometimes thirds) every time I put this on the table. It’s simple, it’s rustic, and it is absolutely packed with flavor.
Ingredients:
- 12 ounces of your favorite pasta (penne or fusilli work great!)
- 8 slices of thick-cut bacon, chopped into bite-sized pieces
- 1 medium yellow onion, finely diced
- 3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 can (28 ounces) of crushed tomatoes or San Marzano tomatoes
- 1/2 teaspoon of red pepper flakes (for just a little kick!)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- Freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- A handful of fresh basil leaves, torn
Instructions:
- Start by bringing a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook your pasta according to the package directions until it’s perfectly al dente. Don't forget to reserve about a half cup of that starchy pasta water before draining!
- While the pasta is bubbling away, get a large skillet over medium heat. Toss in your chopped bacon and cook it until it’s nice and crispy. Once it's done, use a slotted spoon to move the bacon to a paper towel-lined plate, but keep about two tablespoons of that liquid gold bacon grease in the pan.
